Perth's favourite sunset spot
Sunset Hill is a grassed hill on the redeveloped Scarborough Beach foreshore, built for one thing: watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean. On summer evenings crowds gather with picnics and cameras as the sky turns orange, pink and purple. It is also a great spot for photography at sunrise, with the sun at your back lighting up the beach.
Whale watching from Sunset Hill
During the humpback whale migration, roughly September to November, scan the horizon for spouts and breaches. Binoculars help. For a closer look, whale-watching tours leave from Hillarys Boat Harbour.
What's nearby
The east side of Sunset Hill overlooks the skate bowl, half-court basketball, climbing wall and playground. The Scarborough Beach Pool, amphitheatre, cafés and restaurants are a short walk away.
Tips
- Check the sunset time and arrive 30 minutes early on summer weekends.
- Bring a blanket — the grass is perfect for picnics.
- Take rubbish home and respect neighbours.
